Good morning, Barbour County!
Headlines this morning are slim as weather has brought our county to almost complete standstill for the last few days.

WINTER STORM BLAIR
School is cancelled for another day, Health Department will still be closed on Wednesday, and Here and There transit will not operate either.
As of now, Yarn Basket in Philippi and Laurel Mountain Inn in Belington have also announced closures for Wednesday. Other businesses are operating on regular or modified schedule. We will be updating this post throughout the day with hours of operation or closures for other businesses as they announce it.
Updates:
*Fox’s Pizza is open 11 a.m.-6 p.m. – pick up and dine in only
*Hometown Pizzeria is closing at 3 p.m.
*Philippi Public Library is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
*Mountain State Quilting – open with limited parking due to snow removal from the parking lot.
*Philippi Inn – open regular hours
*Dianne’s Restaurant – closed; will plan to reopen Thursday at 7 a.m.
*Molly’s Ice Cream – open regular hours
MAIN STREET CLOSURE

Main Street in downtown Philippi will be closed for traffic on Wednesday afternoon for the snow removal. With more snow projected for the rest of the week, the crews decided to remove as much as possible from the main road ahead of time. The street crew was also joined by several volunteers who grabbed the shovel, and started helping out with the sidewalks. Within an hour, most of the snow was removed and taken to North Philippi park.
BUSINESS SCAM
A local business has reported a scam where they were called by someone pretending to be local police officer, telling them that they have received counterfeit money, and instructing them to take all larger bills in cash and wire them to a specific account using wire money service or money order.
Please know that the police would never ask you to wire money, nor would they be calling about sensitive matter over the phone. If you receive a similar scam call, please contact Barbour County Sheriff’s Department.
EVENTS
Even though most events have been cancelled due to snow, several are still scheduled as of Wednesday morning.
Update: This event is postponed, and the date will be announced soon! On Thursday afternoon and evening, Philip Barbour boys’ basketball will host Grafton at Rex Pyles Arena on Battlers Knob (former Alderson Broaddus University). There will be three games, starting at 4 p.m., and during varsity game halftime, special dedication will be held as the court will be officially named after the late AB men’s basketball coach, Greg Zimmerman. As of today, the games are still being planned unless there is a school cancellation Thursday.
On Saturday evening, Belington Bakery will host its first anniversary party from 6-8 p.m., with special poetry, music, and storytelling performances. They will also be offering special soup and pizza buffet. Buffet is optional, and is $15 for adults and $10 for children. Event in itself is free.
