VFDs Fight Structure Fire (Friday, January 24, 2025)

Local emergency services responded on Thursday afternoon to a structure fire in Dartmoor area, and requested presence of police officers, as it appeared to be an active site of production of methamphetamine. Emergency personnel was decontaminated, and several members of the fire departments went to the hospital to be checked out. More information on this incident will be reported during the day Friday as additional details become available.
Bright Futures Coalition held celebratory dinner at Burbick Hall at Battlers Knob, where they handed out checks to over 40 organizations in the county that deal with youth and substance prevention among young people. From arts to sports to churches and educational activities, large variety of organizations was represented. The total of $90,000 was handed out, and the funding came from Barbour County Commission's settlements of opioid lawsuits.
The schools are on two hour delay for Friday - the first time students would go to school this week. The weather seems promising for next week, with temperatures in mid 30s and low 40s. No additional snow is expected at this time.
Even though no additional snow is expected, Tygart Valley Supply is restocked with rock salt and shovels in case you need some.
This is the last weekend to grab winter special-teas at BoTai in Philippi, so head out this weekend and grab one of the delicious concoctions.
January 30 is the last day for farmers to apply for Drought Assistance Application. Barbour County residents can apply at the Tygarts Valley Conservation District located at 16346 Barbour County Highway.
