*Monday morning around 1 a.m., fire was reported inside the Leer South coal mine, and as of 8 p.m. in the evening, it was still going on. You can read our full report here. Mining operations are halted until further notice. Investigation will be underway as soon as it is deemed safe to conduct it.
*Weather has finally eased on our region, allowing for regular daily activities to continue. The school will once again be on 2 hour delay Tuesday, but all the businesses have returned to their regular hours.
*Philippi Middle School girls' basketball will go to Tucker County Friday for a matchup with Tucker Valley Middle School. Philip Barbour girls' basketball will host Elkins on Wednesday, then travel to RCB Friday, and will play against Logan at East Fairmont on Saturday. Belington Middle School girls will be on the road Thursday against Tygarts Valley, while the boys' team will host the same school on the same night. Philip Barbour boys are hosting Grafton Saturday at Battlers Knob. Kasson boys and girls will host Buckhannon tonight, then head to Philippi on Thursday.
*E3 Music And Art Venue in Belington will feature Allister Stolas on Saturday at 8 p.m., while Margarita's will host Jeff Grable tonight at 6 p.m., and Carl and Ed on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. Molly's Hand Dipped Ice Cream will have their regular open mic on Wednesday at 7 p.m., and 17 North will have Trivia Night on Thursday. *Philip Barbour HS band took part in Gubernatorial Inauguration parade, and pictures will be forthcoming. As always, the band truly represents us as a "Pride of Barbour County."
*Barbour County Chamber of Commerce is hosting a legislative breakfast on January 17 at Laurel Mountain Inn at 8 p.m. Contact Mike Cvechko at 304-457-5433 to RSVP.
*For those looking for an activity, Aqua Zumba is back at Belington Wellness Center on Tuesdays at 6 p.m.
