Train Collision in Philippi Leaves SUV Totaled, No Injuries Reported


Emergency responders swiftly reacted to a train collision incident that unfolded in Philippi last Thursday morning, ensuring the safety of all involved parties.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, prompting the immediate dispatch of emergency crews to the scene, as confirmed by the Barbour County 911 Center.


According to 911 officials, the collision was classified as a "minor wreck," with the fortunate outcome that the train did not derail, averting a potentially catastrophic situation. The SUV entangled in the incident was totaled, but no injuries were reported.


Among the diligent responders was the Philippi Police Department, ensuring the orderly management of the situation.

On Thursday afternoon, CSX, the railway company involved, released the following statement:

"At approximately 8:43 a.m. EDT today, a CSX train came in contact with a vehicle on the tracks at N. Main Street in Philippi, WV. There were no injuries to the crew of the train. Philippi police responded and is investigating the incident."
