The sequence of events began at approximately 4:45 p.m. when BVFD received an alert to assist with the reported vehicle fire. Deputy Chief Hart, a stalwart member of the firefighting community with over 50 years of dedicated service, promptly headed from his residence on a side street.
Tragically, as Deputy Chief Hart turned onto Serpell Avenue, it is suspected that he suffered a sudden medical emergency, rendering him unconscious. In the midst of this medical crisis, his vehicle accelerated off the roadway and collided head-on with a nearby tree.
Upon arrival at the scene, fellow firefighters discovered Deputy Chief Hart heavily entrapped in his vehicle. A swift and coordinated effort ensued, with firefighters working tirelessly to extricate their colleague from the wreckage. Once freed, Deputy Chief Hart was immediately flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital with severe injuries, where he is currently undergoing surgery.
