Winter storm Blair has brought another 4 inches of snow to Barbour County, and the schools have already been cancelled for Thursday, January 9, 2025. As of this late last night, only Laurel Mountain Inn announced they would be closing, with most businesses slowly reopening, though with some modified hours - for more info, call the business directly to make sure.
On Wednesday, City of Philippi street crews removed the snow from Main Street in downtown section, as well as adjoining sidewalks, and on Thursday, they are planning on doing the section around Walgreens as well. Drivers are urged to use parallel streets as a detour.
EVENTS
Philip Barbour-Grafton boys' basketball games, originally scheduled for Thursday, January 9, have been rescheduled for January 18. The games will be held at Rex Pyles Arena at Battlers Knob, and the court naming ceremony will take place the same day. The court will be named after late Alderson Broaddus men's basketball coach, Greg Zimmerman.
Saturday events are still planned on happening, including Belington Bakery one year anniversary party from 6-8 p.m. (all are welcome to this free event; soup and pizza buffet will be available for purchase), as well as baseball clinic and cheer showcase at Battlers Knob. More updates about all events will be forthcoming tomorrow.
With majority of the county basically being closed for a week now, there is not much news to report. More snow is expected over the weekend, but next week brings no precipitation, although the temperatures will hover in mid-teens.
