Spooktacular Fun In Downtown Philippi: Trick-Or-Treat Delight

Halloween in downtown Philippi last Tuesday was a thrilling and enchanting extravaganza, filled with laughter, costumes, and the spirit of the season. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the bustling streets of Philippi transformed into a magical world of goblins, superheroes, and princesses during the annual downtown merchant Trick-or-Treat organized by Philippi Main Street.

The streets came alive with creativity as children and adults, donned in their most imaginative costumes, embarked on a quest to collect sweet treats from the warm-hearted local businesses. Philippi Lions Club added a unique and educational twist to the evening by distributing over 400 books to trick-or-treaters. The tradition, which began in 2013, is part of the Lions Club International's literacy program and has become a much-anticipated community event. Pictured in high spirits were Lions Doug Haller, Sabrina Ward, and Elaine Benson, embodying the true essence of Halloween generosity.

Amping up the festivities, the Nook offered the perfect backdrop for photo ops, courtesy of the Create Philippi organization's creative decorations. Meanwhile, downtown businesses generously distributed candy to eager trick-or-treaters, and Artefaktual store delighted comic book enthusiasts with free treasures.

The pinnacle of the night was the captivating performance by the Philip Barbour High School drama club. Their interactive Halloween play, set alongside the courthouse, was a spellbinding journey, with participants becoming a part of the mystical narrative. The play was met with thunderous excitement, and it left both children and adults craving for more. With rave reviews from everyone, we can only hope for another installment next Halloween.

As the night drew to a close, the Walgreens parking lot was abuzz with excitement for the costume judging. The parade, led by the talented musicians of the Philippi Middle School Band, was a sight to behold. Goblins, princesses, witches, and superheroes paraded down Main Street in a glorious procession, culminating with the announcement of the costume contest winners.
