The West Virginia Marching Band Invitational descended upon Philip Barbour High School this past Saturday, October 21. This annual event (usually held in Charleston, WV) was a resounding success, bringing together 34 marching bands, 46 buses, 42 trailers, 1,412 talented students, and a whopping 175 dedicated volunteers. The sounds of music echoed through the air as thousands of band enthusiasts flocked to the school's campus, turning it into a hub of harmony and rhythm.
The work began as early as 6 a.m. and lasted until the wee hours of the morning, with last people leaving the stadium at 1:30 a.m. the next day. This mammoth undertaking would not have been possible without the collaborative efforts of numerous individuals, organizations, and local businesses, all working together to orchestrate an unforgettable day of music, competition, and camaraderie.
Despite the weather's initial reluctance, which began with cold and rainy conditions, the sun made a triumphant appearance just in time for the competitions, which commenced at 10 a.m. and extended late into the evening, concluding at nearly 11 p.m.
Philip Barbour was named the 4th runner-up in the Governor's Cup. However, the evening's most coveted trophy, the Governor's Cup, was once again secured by Cabell-Midland High School.
Additionally, the Philip Barbour Twirlers and their instructors stole the spotlight by securing the title of State Champion Majorettes. Notably, senior Mauren Miller was honored as the runner-up to Miss Majorette. The twirlers include Sophomore Olivia Marion, Senior Kaitlynn Williamson, Senior Mauren Miller, and Sophomore Lindsey Weese. The instructors behind this incredible group include Coordinator Allison Iapalucci, and Instructors Sable Weese Hall, Dr. Mariah Bartlett, Anna Marie Ruf, Taylee Tallman, and Donovan Sarr. Their hard work and dedication were rewarded in spectacular fashion.

Philip Barbour High School Band extended their heartfelt appreciation to Tom Freeman; Marija Ilic; Jennings Excavating; Corporate Circle Sponsor Barbour Community Health Association, CEO Eric Ruf, and staff for Bandaid; PBHS Administrators; the Barbour County OEM and Corey Brandon; local law enforcement agencies, as well as the West Virginia State Police; PBHS Athletic Boosters, Nick Mayle and the football team; Athletic Director Tammy Zimmerman; videographer Adam Carpenter; photographer Bruce Short; Sheetz, and Lois Jane McBee; Delegate Chris Phillips; Sheila Larew; the WV Division of Arts, Culture, and History (Curator Randall Reid-Smith, Andrea Thompson, Adam Jones, and Steve Brightwell); Miss Barbour County, Taylor Skidmore; Queen Silvia the 85th, Anna Ruf; the Mountaineer Inn; the Barbour County Development Authority; Nicholas Righman; WBOY and WDTV; the Barbour County Country Club; Corporate Circle Sponsor Mace’s Pharmacy and Rich Mace; Tim James, WV Department of Education Fine Arts Coordinator; Barbour County Board of Education Members; Lewis Hall and the PBHS Chords; and many more people who lent their hand in ensuring the success of such large event.
