What if everyone watching the Super Bowl game this year gave just one dollar or one can to local food charities?
In 1990, Souper Bowl of Caring began with a simple prayer from a single youth group: “Lord, even as we enjoy the Super Bowl football game, help us be mindful of those without a bowl of soup to eat.”
Since then, more than $170 million has been generated for local charities across the country through Souper Bowl of Caring. It has become a powerful movement that transforms the time around the Big Game into the nation’s largest celebration of giving and caring for those in need.
Through this mission, people learn they can make a positive difference in the world as they collect food, raise money, serve at hunger-relief charities, and show caring and compassion in local communities across the country. Locally, Heart and Hand House invites the community to join its team to “Tackle Hunger” and share in God’s love for our neighbors in need by collecting food or raising money on Souper Bowl Sunday (February 11) to support its food pantry. Gifts of non-perishable food items and funds to purchase food are greatly appreciated and are used to help Barbour County families in need.

Heart and Hand House, Inc., located at 45 Mason Street, Philippi, is a non-profit mission project affiliated with the United Methodist Church that provides emergency assistance to income-eligible residents of Barbour County.
