Small Business Solutions meeting on August 12 at the Barbour County Development Authority office in Philippi showcased the spirit of collaboration and community support. Gratitude was extended to Mullens and Mullens PLLC for sponsoring the refreshments, and to guest speaker WVU Extension Agent Jody Carpenter, whose involvement highlights the goal to engage with local organizations that bolster our community's economic framework.
Carpenter presented WVU Extension services that are pivotal for local farmers and producers aspiring to establish businesses. These services include aid in obtaining tax-exempt status, providing record-keeping resources, and making referrals for forming an LLC. Additionally, educational resources on soil and tissue analysis, pest management, and more highlight a robust support system for agricultural entrepreneurship in Barbour County.

Barbour County Extension Agent also focused on programs designed to enrich local schools and community initiatives, such as 'Rethink Your Drink,' 'Food of the Month,' and 'Microgreens/Gardening.' Initiatives like FARMacy, Kids Markets, and in-school activities such as money management, robotics, and environmental science are vital to shaping Barbour Countys future.

The success of our small businesses is intertwined with the broader communitys engagement and support. Barbour County Economic Development Authority strongly encourages local business owners to collaborate with WVU Extension and explore opportunities to participate in their youth programs. Whether through direct collaboration, sharing expertise, or simply engaging with the youth, business owners can make a significant impact. If your business would like to contribute to the future of Barbour County's youth, please reach out directly to WVU Extension Agent Jody Carpenter at jcarpe11@mail.wvu.edu or call 304-457-3254.

As we move through September and October, there will be taking a brief hiatus from our usual meetings. This break coincides with co-sponsor Barbour County Chamber of Commerce's special evening events planned around the same time. Please keep an eye out for announcements regarding those events as well as the next Small Business Solutions meeting in November.
