Total of 12 students from across Barbour County have begun the Prevention Works 2024 summer employment and substance use prevention program. The program was first organized during the summer of 2020 and has become a very important summer program to help young adults ages 12-17. Six weeks of activities provide 54 hours of skill building and employment, as well as 18 lunch and learn sessions that are led by adult leaders from around the county and surrounding area to provide life lessons on employment, health, and important issues related to substance use prevention.
This important program is led by Sam Christie, the New Vision Youth Director and leader in the Bright Futures Barbour County Executive Team. The group has a series of youth planned events and activities which will be completed Friday, August 2, with the group graduating and receiving their successful employment training certificate. Special acknowledgement is given to Doward and Twila Matlick, the founding financial sponsors for the program, Barbour County Commission, Bright Futures Barbour County, HRSA grant, Mullens and Mullens, Marshall University, and all the speakers and support staff at New Vision.
