Philippi Volunteer Fire Department Responds To Series Of Incidents

On Friday, January 26, 2024, Philippi Volunteer Fire Department (PVFD) swiftly responded to multiple consecutive incidents.

Shorty after 6 p.m., they responded to a call about a two-vehicle motor vehicle accident (MVA) on the bypass in Philippi, at the intersection of Wabash Ave. Engine 42 and Rescue 4 were on the scene promptly. Crews from PVFD, along with support from Belington EMS, Philippi PD, West Virginia State Police (WVSP), and Thornes Towing, worked diligently to assist with traffic control until the roadway was cleared, ensuring the safety of all involved.

Later in the evening, at around 7:30 p.m., the PVFD received another call, this time for a single-vehicle MVA on Rt 57 with ejection. Engine 41 and Rescue 4, manned by a total of 10 personnel, rushed to the scene. The collaboration with Barbour County EMS, Nutterfort EMS, WVSP, Barbour County Sheriff's Department (BCSD), and Thornes Towing showcased the effective coordination between various emergency response agencies.

Prior to these two incidents, the Philippi Volunteer Fire Department demonstrated their spirit of mutual aid by assisting the Belington Volunteer Fire Department. This earlier incident involved Deputy Fire Chief Mike Hart, who became entrapped while en route to a possible vehicle fire on Route 48.
