The Philippi Lions Club would like to recognize Leatrice “Lea” Gallien. Lea has been a member for 25 years and was one of the first women to join the Club. If you know Lea, it will come as no surprise that after only two years she was president. She held that position for two years. She also served as District 29I Sight Conservation Chairman for hearing aids and eye surgeries. Lea was the recipient of both the Melvin Jones and Leonard Jarret Awards.
One of Lea’s favorite projects is the Conservation Camp for middle school students. She worked tirelessly every year for 13 years to get tuition for as many students as she could. Lea helped start the “fun auction” for residents of Mansfield Place.
She is most “famous” for her kitchen skills! She was “in charge” of getting the food together for the salad luncheon, pig roast, hot dog sales, and other fundraisers. She was known for baking fresh cinnamon rolls and ramp peperoni rolls (before they were popular) for the bake sales. Although her health prevents her from doing much anymore, her legacy lives on through her recipes and wisdom she has shared over the years.
Lea, along with her husband Okey, have been a driving force in the Philippi Lions Club. They have volunteered countless hours in the community.
