The Philippi Convention & Visitors Bureau is pleased to announce the winners of the 2024 Lurch Fest Window Decorating Contest. This year’s winners showcase a variety of perspectives on Ted Cassidy, the Philippi native who portrayed Lurch in the 1960’s series The Addams Family.

Winning first place is Hope Mission’s Thrift Store. The window was primarily a collection of visuals depicting stages in Cassidy’s life and some of the movie roles he portrayed.

The Barbour County Senior Center is this year’s second place winner. The Center’s numerous windows featured sketches of Lurch and models of The Addams Family characters.

The Yarn Basket is the third-place winner in this year’s contest. One window highlighted small dolls dressed in hand-knitted Addams Family costumes that had been customized by local knitters. The second window featured models of Lurch and It.
For the second year, Philippi’s CVB will present cash prizes of $100, $50, and $25 to the winners. The CVB also wants to give an “Honorable Mention” to two other Main Street businesses. While not named as winners in this year’s contest, the Nationwide Office and Twisted Bee have consistently shown support of Lurch Fest through their creative window displays both this year and in past years,” says a CVB spokesperson. The CVB thanks all the participating Main Street businesses and the anonymous judges for this year’s contest.
The Convention & Visitors Bureau is charged with enhancing the economic climate of Philippi by developing and promoting the tourist resources and convention attractions. Sponsoring the annual Lurch Fest Window Decorating Contest is one way the CVB promotes Lurch Fest which has become a top tourist attraction for Philippi.
