Philippi Baptist Church Welcomes New Pastor

It has been two years since Rev. Jonathan Villers left Philippi Baptist Church to assume the role of area minister in southern West Virginia. The search for a new pastor began immediately upon his departure.

Philippi Baptist is now pleased to introduce Dr. Timothy Brown as our new pastor. He officially began duties the first of August, but he was already engaged in the community before then, meeting and greeting members of the church and the surrounding area.

Dr. Brown was born and raised in West Virginia. During his time here, he was involved in Baptist Campus Ministries at Fairmont State. He also served as youth pastor at Simpson Creek Baptist Church, where he temporarily took on senior pastor responsibilities. He earned his Master of Divinity from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and later received his Doctorate of Ministry from the Northern Baptist Theological Seminary. Dr. Brown has also served at churches in Indiana and California, dedicating 28 years to ministry in California, including a role as Executive Minister for Growing Healthy Churches (formerly known as the American Baptist Convention of the West). He prioritizes community outreach as well as children's and youth ministries.

On a personal note, Dr. Brown is the proud father of two daughters, Abby and Ally. Abby and her husband, Colin, reside in California while Ally lives in Florida. He also has two canine companions, Phoebe and Charlie. Although he has lived away from West Virginia for a few years, he still has an appreciation of Appalachian cuisine. He also likes to fish, and is an avid WVU sports fan.
