“The Pride of Barbour County” was pleased to send senior Trace Riley to the annual West Virginia Music Educator’s Conference, as a member of the All-State Band, held at the Charleston Coliseum. Following a successful audition, West Virginia’s premier band students gathered in Charleston from February 29-March 2, 2024, to rehearse, and prepare for the finale concert held at the Clay Center. They were joined by the West Virginia All State Choir and All State Orchestra.
The director of the All-State Band this year was world renowned conductor and clinician, Dr. Peter Boonshaft. He has guest conducted in every state in the nation, and is currently the Director of Education for Jupiter Instruments. Selections for the All-State Band included Andrew Boyson’s Song for Lyndsay, as well as British Eighth (March) by Zo Elliot, and Landscapes, by Rossano Galante, among other selections. Director Victor Iapalucci was also on duty for the conference, as he served his third year as West Virginia Bandmaster President, which included presiding over the annual meeting, and facilitating aspects of both the first Middle School All-State Band, which was created during his tenure, and the All-State Band. He commented, “I am so very proud of the journey Trace has undertaken, both in my classroom, as well as independently, and this membership in All-State Band is a well-deserved recognition of hours of work on his own.”
