Mt Vernon UM Church Receives Foundation Grant

Lilah Phillips, Children’s Coordinator at Mt. Vernon U.M. Church accepts grant check from Barbour County Community foundation President, Roger Bolton

The Barbour County Community Foundation is pleased to announce the awarding of a Community Grant to the Mt. Vernon U.M. Church. The $2000 grant will help fund their mission to provide weekend and holiday food bags to help combat food insecurity issues.

According to Lilah Phillips, Children's Coordinator at Mt. Vernon UM Church, "It was brought to our attention by a teacher who attends our church that many of her student's families were food insecure. It was discovered that there was a program through Heart and Hand where organizations could provide for these needs. Our church decided to provide food for the Pre-K and Kindergarten classes at Philippi Elementary School."
