Local Veteran Participated In National Memorial Day Parade

Wayne Morrow, a resident of Belington, West Virginia, recently had the distinguished honor of participating in the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, DC. Morrow, who served with the 299th Engineer Battalion out of Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, joined 135 other Desert Storm veterans to march for the National Desert Storm War Memorial (NDSWM) foundation.

Morrow, a long-time resident of Oklahoma before moving to Belington three years ago, represented his former home state with great pride by carrying the Oklahoma state flag during the parade. In addition to the state flag, Morrow also bore patches bearing the names of five servicemen who tragically lost their lives during Operation Desert Storm.

The parade, which took place on Memorial Day, was a stirring event filled with patriotism and remembrance.

Following the parade, Morrow, along with several other veterans, visited the future site of the National Desert Storm War Memorial. The memorial, which is expected to be completed by the fall of next year, will stand as a permanent tribute to the heroes of Desert Storm. At the site, the solemn notes of taps were played, providing a moment of reflection and honor for those who lost their lives.
