Local Enforcement Mourns A Death Of Deputy Deffet (Wednesday, February 12, 2025)


  • Barbour County Sheriff's Department is mourning the passing of Deputy Todd Deffet, who passed away after brief illness. We are joining with the rest of community in expressing our condolences to the family and friends and the police officers in our county. He will be greatly missed.


  • Belington Elementary School is announcing participation in Girls on the Run program for girls in the grade 3 through 5. If you have a child or know a child who may be interested, website for registration is www.gotrncwv.org.


  • Online tutoring is now available for the children in grades 5 through 8 for math and ELA. Virtual tutoring Google classroom is available Monday-Thursday from 6-8 p.m.


  • Barb's Restaurant, Fox's Pizza, Tygart Cubs, and Barbour Health Community Association are all hiring - if you are interested or know someone who is - check out their FB pages, or contact them directly.


  • Number of people have been missing exercise classes when Philippi Wellness Center closed are excited to have them back! 17 North Event Center will be hosting chair yoga, chair aerobics, and Zumba classes throughout the week - for schedule, check out our This Week in County listing on the Events tab.


  • Next Friday, February 21, Belington Public Library will host soup and sandwich fundraiser from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.


  • And yes, we are still on the winter weather warning throughout Wednesday. Weather has certainly altered lot of events and happenings in the county, making it for less news.
