Local Charitable, Civic, And Nonprofit Organizations Capture $338,000 From The 17th Annual Run For It!

The 17th Annual Run for It event, organized by the Tucker Community Foundation, was a resounding success, bringing together a diverse community of over 1,400 virtual and in-person participants. These participants represented 79 charitable, civic, and nonprofit organizations from our service region and state. This remarkable event raised an astonishing $338,000 for these organizations, setting a new record for the highest amount raised to date. The weather was delightful, and the event saw over 800 participants lining up to participate in the 2k walk and 5k run held as part of the annual Leaf Peepers Festival in Davis. This record-breaking achievement is a testament to the community's generosity and commitment.

David Cooper, CEO, and Angie Pase Run For It Coordinator and Development Director for the Tucker Community Foundation, commended this year’s team captains for their significant role in the event's success. 'The team captains are the unsung heroes of this event. Their dedication and hard work go beyond just asking for financial support. They engage with their communities for six months, raising awareness for their organizations, recruiting team members, and fundraising for their causes,' said Cooper. Pase added, 'It was truly inspiring to see the dedication of the team captains and their members in raising funds and promoting awareness for their causes. We also appreciate the support from corporate sponsors, County Commissions, and local businesses in our service area, who financially invested in these organizations and communities.'

Run For It helps civic, charitable, and nonprofit organizations gain critical operational support. Teams representing these organizations can raise support through entry fees, team sponsorship, and race day awards. Half the entry fees and 100% of the team sponsor donations and race day awards go towards the team’s chosen cause. The program supports a wide range of causes, including the arts, animal welfare, challenged athletes, charities, churches, civic organizations, community improvement projects, cultural organizations, educational activities, emergency services, environmental causes, historic preservation, hospital and medical programs, libraries and literacy programs, non-profit organizations, parks and recreation, senior citizen programs, Tucker Community Foundation operations, and youth organizations, and serves as a networking opportunity for various agencies, programs, projects, and people throughout the Potomac Highlands and beyond.

Since its inception in 2007, Run For It has raised over $3.2 million for civic, charitable, and nonprofit causes, leaving a lasting impact on the communities the Foundation serves in Barbour, Grant, Mineral, Pocahontas, Preston, Randolph, and Tucker Counties in West Virginia, and Garrett County, Maryland. This remarkable achievement demonstrates the power of collective effort and the impact of individuals coming together for a common purpose.

The final team awards have been tallied and will be distributed to the teams by early November. The comprehensive list of award results can be found at www.tuckerfoundation.net/race-results/. Please mark your calendars for next year’s event. The 2025 Run For It will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025. We hope to see you there!
