The week of August 25-31,2024 saw the Barbour County Fair in town. This was a busy week for many people, including the Junior Lions Club. On August 24, members were present during the Queen’s pageant, and they helped announce the winner. Then on Monday, August 26, members marched in the Grand Feature Parade. Not only did they debut their new banner, but they were also a sponsor for the Grand Feature Parade.

Throughout the week members were busy working at the big red barn on the hill. Anyone who visited the food stand was sure to be greeted and served by one of our many members dressed in their yellow Lions Club shirts and a smile on their face. I am sure anyone who tasted the sweet tea was impressed. It has been said that this sweet tea is the best tea East of the Mississippi. The sweet tea is a recipe made by our very own Lions Club member Marshall Reed. Marshall made and sold 170 gallons of tea during the week. There were many other delicious meals made during the week as well, from pulled pork BBQ sandwiches and the Italian Sausage sandwiches, to the cheesy fries and nachos. Attendees were able to cool down with a bowl of ice cream or treated themselves to a dessert of blackberry cobbler and ice cream.

The Junior Lions Club worked hard to ensure everyone had a great time while at the fair. Whether you were visiting the 4-H exhibits, demolition derby, or the entertainment, the Junior Lions Club tried to make sure everyone had a great time! Be sure to check out the official Junior Lions Club Facebook page for updates on what the club is doing throughout the year.
