Judge Hoxie Visits PBHS Class

On November 8, Philip Barbour Civics class students had a special guest – Judge Thomas Hoxie. Mr. Brown, Civics class teacher and PRO Jeff Walters invited Judge Hoxie to speak to the class about his experience as a judge, but also about the role that judiciary branch has in the government and the community.

Judge Hoxie spoke about how the court process works, the difference between civil and criminal cases, and the interaction with other branches of the government. He also spoke about how jury trial works. He said “I believe that talking to the government officials complements the lessons students learn in class, and may encourage more civic involvement in our community now and in the future.”

Students were engaged and asked lot of questions. They also each received a fun pencil gavel, a booklet on WV judiciary, and a copy of the state constitution.
