Hundreds Lose Jobs At Leer South (Saturday, February 22, 2025)

The news has rattled Barbour County as mines posted that mine was idle on Friday, while number of employees received calls, letting them know they were terminated immediately. The number circulating on social media was anywhere between 100 and 300. The correct number is unknown at the time as there has been no official press release from Core Natural Resources, nor have they returned emails or calls for the comment.
The weather continued to hammer the county well into Friday late morning, and what was supposed to be 2 hour school delay, turned into full cancellation. The upcoming week will see everything from temperatures in teens to rain to temperatures in close to 60s - true introduction to the month of March.
Feed My Sheep school will hold open house for anyone interested in finding out more about it. The event will be held on March 28, 2025, from 5-7 p.m.

Due to inclement weather, donkey basketball at Belington Middle is postponed to a later date.

This weekend: benefit dinner Saturday for Summerfield family at Crim UMC at 2 p.m., bake sale for BC Youth Wrestling on Sunday from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at Belington Shop N Save, and purse bingo Sunday at 2 p.m. at Taj MoeHall - to benefit PB Baseball!
