The Youth Free time Activities committee of Bright Futures Barbour County Prevention coalition is seeking to support youth serving organizations in their efforts to provide meaningful and positive youth development activities in Barbour County.
The Bright Futures Barbour County’s Substance Use Prevention Strategy has identified the need for more and better supporter youth focused activities in all sectors of interest for young people: sports, arts, agriculture, and academics.
The Bright Futures committee will be distributing funds to new and emerging youth activities that have adult leadership, and are community to substance free environments and promotion. The activities will need to provide a clear purpose statement, schedule, and list of youth and their birthdates who are served by the activities. Eligible activities serve elementary through high school aged youth.
Funding for this first round of financial support has come through the Health Resources and Services Administrations Opioid Response grant that was awarded in 2020 to the Bright Futures Barbour County Coalition with The Barbour Community Health Association as the lead fiscal agent. The goal for the Free Time Committee is to continue to support and develop youth serving organizations in Barbour County. Please contact members of the committee: Mrs. Patty Delauder, Millard Minor, Kristy Kline, and Ian Tallman, or call Ruston Seaman at 304-669-2191.
Funds will be divided among groups and all recipients will be asked to attend a substance use prevention discussion that will be scheduled in June and customized to meet the needs of the groups involved.
The deadline for the applications is May 18. The applications can be completed online or handed to a committee member.
