Exciting Developments Unveiled As Alderson Broaddus Campus Transitions To Battlers Knob

In a landmark move set to transform the landscape of the Alderson Broaddus campus, the upcoming ownership transfer to Battlers Knob LLC marks the beginning of a new era for community. Closing the purchase in the first week of March, owner Craig Phillips has entrusted his daughter, Cherri Sturm, current Mayor of Belington, to oversee the management of the sprawling property. Sturm has been the central figure in revitalizing downtown Belington in recent years, and has developed the reputation of go-getter in the community, leaving residents hopeful for the future of AB campus.

One of the most anticipated updates involves the Multi-Sport Performance Stadium, which is set to host the Appalachian Thunder, a semi-professional football team from the Tri-Point Football League (TPFL). Cherri Sturm expressed her enthusiasm about the team making Philippi their home.

"The brand-new turf field, never before played on by the Battlers, will now be inaugurated by the Thunder. We're excited to bring people here to enjoy the beautiful field," said Sturm. The Thunder will play their first game on May 11, with tickets priced at $10. Sturm also revealed plans for a comedy show in the auditorium on the same day, featuring both local and out-of-state comedians.

Sturm emphasized the commitment to community development, stating, "We felt that acquiring the land would help out the community of Philippi. We like to see things happen in small communities, and we hope to make positive changes that benefit the community and children."

In a bid to engage with the youth, Sturm hinted at potential summer camps utilizing former residential hall spaces. While there are no immediate plans for permanent residential areas, she mentioned the possibility of adding an assisted living area in the former alumni center.

The excitement doesn't end there. Sturm revealed that government organizations have expressed interest in leasing office spaces, and several buildings are available for rent for events, weddings, camps, and retreats. Plans are underway to reopen the former student center, potentially featuring a new eatery in the former Cave, along with the fitness center reopening in the same building.
