Busy Saturday Coming Up

  • It will be a busy day this Saturday in Barbour County!

    • In the morning, Feed My Sheep Christian School will have Buckwheat and Pancake Breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m.

    • Spring Craft Show is set to take place at Battlers Knob from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with over 50 vendors signed up!

    • And in the evening, Belington Fire Department is hosting Elimination Dance from 5:30 p.m. to midnight.


  • Barbour County Senior Center and Perfectly Pampered Salon have partnered to create a new event – a jewelry making class for seniors to make their own jewelry. The class will take place at Perfectly Pampered Salon, located at 61 South Main Street in Philippi, on Monday, May 5, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. For more information or to RSVP, contact Anita Wells at 304-457-4545, ext. 224.


  • Barbour County Fairgrounds Farmers’ Market is set to open their season next Friday, April 11, at 4 p.m.

    Fairgrounds Farmers’ Market that runs every Friday well into the end of fall has become popular among residents and farmers over the last few years, and this year they are promising bigger and better one, offering fresh local produce, baked goodies, and crafts, all created by local vendors. The organizers are also hinting at new surprises in the store.


  • Belington Beautification Committee is now seeking donations and participants for their annual Hopping Down the Bunny Trail event, that will take place on April 19, at 10 a.m.

    They are looking for filled plastic eggs, Easter basket giveaways and grand prizes, and for people to set up a booth and engage with a community.

    The event that has been very popular in the past is advertised as a morning of fun for children and families, For more information on how to donate or reserve a setup space, contact Suzanna Wilmoth Skidmore at 304-621-1802.


  • Several members of the Philippi Law Enforcement Task Force recently completed a six week training program through the Buckhannon Police Department and Upshur County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. The training included topics such as communications, use of force, traffic control, drug awareness, k-9 operations, and crime scene investigation. The task force members will now begin training for CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) which is a 4-week program.


  • Ronald J. Andro, Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer of Davis Health System, is the guest speaker for the BC Chamber of Commerce’s Information: Barbour County session on Wednesday, April 16 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in Burbick Hall on the campus of Battlers Knob. Light refreshments will be served at the free event.


  • On Thursday, April 3, 2025, local students are invited to join Save the Tygart Watershed Association and Appalachian Forest National Heritage Area AmeriCorps at a fun educational outdoor event called "Meet Me at the Creek." This hands-on experience designed for school-age children through middle school will take place from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Teter Creek Lake Campground.
