Monday was a very busy day for the county emergency services that responded to two fires and two vehicle accidents.
At around 8:45 a.m., Philippi Volunteer Fire Department was alerted with automatic mutual aid from Belington VFD, Junior VFD, and Grafton FD for a structure fire on Mansfield drive that was believed to have been a result of a lightning strike. Engine 42 and Engine 43 responded and arrived on scene with a fully involved outbuilding fire. Crews brought the fire under control quickly. Chief 4 held PVFD apparatus and Belington Eng 33 and returned all others.
Shortly after returning to the station, a call came at around 9:30 a.m. for a smoke investigation on 4-H Camp Rd that was also due to a lightning strike. Engine 43 responded and arrived on scene with no fire, but a lightning strike had hit a house.
At around 11:45 a.m., PVFD was alerted with Barbour EMS and LE for a one vehicle motor vehicle accident on Rt 76. Engine 42, Rescue 4, and PC 47 responded. Crews arrived on scene and assisted with traffic control until the roadway could be clear.
Later that evening, around 5:45 p.m., PVFD was alerted with Barbour EMS and LE for another one vehicle motor vehicle accident with entrapment on Rt 57. Engine 42 and Rescue 4 responded. Prior to the arrival of emergency services, bystanders were able to get the driver out of the vehicle. Crews assisted with traffic control and debris cleanup until Thornes Towing had possession of the vehicle.
