Body Found In South Main Street Apartment Under Suspicious Circumstances

By Marija Ilic

On Friday evening, July 5, a strong odor reported from an apartment on South Main Street led to a grim discovery. Around 6 p.m., Barbour County EMS responded to the call and, upon arrival, requested assistance from the Philippi Volunteer Fire Department (VFD).

The scene quickly escalated when the state medical examiner confirmed that a female resident was deceased under potentially suspicious circumstances. Philippi City Police and the Barbour County Sheriff's Department were promptly on-site to secure the area. Their efforts continued until midnight when criminal scene investigators from the West Virginia State Police arrived to take over the investigation.

As of now, the identity of the victim has not been released. More details will be shared as the investigation progresses.
