Belington Elementary School Announces Accelerated Reader Winners

After a 4-year hiatus, Belington Elementary School was once again able to offer their Accelerated Reader program. This year produced a total of 112 winners from the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades. The top scorers were: 1st place, Isaac Simmons; 2nd place, Beverly Miller, and 3rd place, Arin Cleavenger.

Accelerated Reader is a computerized reading program that boosts reading motivation, comprehension, library circulation, and overall reading skills. Students in grades second through fourth read Accelerated Reader books and take a multiple-choice quiz on the computer. The computer awards them points based on the reading level of the book and the amount of questions the student answers correctly. Students, in turn, earn prizes at various point levels. Accelerated Reader is completely Internet based, allowing students to have access to over 150,000 quizzes online. Both students and parents can view students’ progress from the Accelerated Reader website using an individual password. Parents also have the opportunity to receive an e-mail notification and score every time their child takes a quiz.

Accelerated Reader is networked throughout the school and can be accessed by any computer or chrome book.
