Battlers Knob Hosts Free Community Thanksgiving Dinner

By Marija Ilic

On Sunday, November 24, Battlers Knob was a site of the free community Thanksgiving dinner, organized by Kaytee Thorne and the family. More than 140 meals were served to the members of the community, hospital workers, and law enforcement officers. Scrumptious spread of turkey, ham, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, corn, green beans, rolls, cranberry sauce, and array of desserts awaited the residents inside Heiner Hall that was decorated for the occasion.

Thorne also honored recently passed Keaton McDermott by participating in Love Like Keaton movement by donating $61 to the 61st person to attend, to support their family during the holiday season. Additional $370 in donations was collected and it will be used toward “Adopt a Senior” event that Thorne has also organized. The event accepts $10 donation per senior, and Thorne will take care of purchasing the gifts, assembling the bags, and delivering them to nursing homes and lower-income housing in Barbour, Randolph, and Upshur County. For a ways to make donation, please contact Thorne by her Facebook page.
