Barbour County Schools Celebrates Successful 2024 Spelling Bee

In an atmosphere filled with excitement and intellect, Barbour County Schools hosted 2024 Spelling Bee on the evening of January 13. Students from various schools showcased their linguistic prowess, making the event a celebration of academic excellence.

The competition was fierce, with participants demonstrating their exceptional spelling abilities. After a thrilling contest, the winners emerged, leaving an indelible mark on the prestigious event.

Taking the coveted first-place position was Alyssa O’Neal from Philippi Middle School. Alyssa's impeccable spelling and determination earned her the top spot, making her school proud. Securing the second-place position was Bailey Helmick from Kasson Elementary-Middle School, followed closely by Taylor Stutler from Philippi Middle School in third place. Each of these talented students showcased their linguistic skills and commitment to excellence.

Notably, Bridgett Kirby from Belington Middle School and Madelyn Phillips from Kasson Elementary-Middle School earned the distinction of being alternates.

The journey doesn't end here for these accomplished spellers. Alyssa O’Neal, Bailey Helmick, Taylor Stutler, Bridgett Kirby, and Madelyn Phillips will advance to the Regional Spelling Bee, which will be held at Fairmont State University. This next stage promises to be an even more challenging and rewarding experience for these students as they compete against their regional peers.
