On a sunny but brisk October 7, the heartwarming spirit of giving was on full display as The AnnieSmiles Foundation held their annual Annie's Ride in downtown Philippi. Enthusiastic Jeep aficionados from across five states and various out-of-town communities gathered to raise funds for the Special Needs Charity and kick off their annual Toy Drive. The event also featured around 30 different vendors, allowing the local public to indulge in some fall shopping.
Dave Rowan, the event coordinator and Director of AnnieSmiles, led the way with a safety briefing that marked the start of the event. During this time, he took a moment to recognize the outstanding volunteers within the organization, with a special highlight on Jefferson Award Winner, Paulette Rowan. Additionally, first responders and U.S. Veterans received well-deserved acknowledgments for their contributions to the community.
The main attraction, Annie's Ride, spanned approximately 40 miles across the most scenic areas of Barbour County, and it has become a beloved tradition for those who journey from far and wide to our charming town.
This year's event marked the 6th annual fundraiser for The AnnieSmiles Foundation, a local organization that goes the extra mile to support the children in the area. Event coordinator Dave Rowan expressed his gratitude, saying, "There are so many people who deserve to be recognized. It is great to be able to show off our little town to so many. This was Annie's town, and we are proud of it." With this event behind them, the AnnieSmiles Foundation now shifts its focus towards the upcoming annual Toy Drive for area children, ensuring that their holiday season is a little brighter.
