Philippi Public Library Hosts The Creative Cup
The library hosts The Creative Cup once per month, usually on the last Monday of the month. On Monday, August 25, from 10:30 a.m. to approximately noon, join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a sweet confection, great conversation, and a creative project. This month we will be making a pressed flower mason jar candle. The library will provide all materials and The Creative Cup is free! Director Judy Buckner Larry asks that everyone register so we know how to plan for the program.
Philippi Public Library Hosts Book Club

Each month the library hosts a book club, usually on the first Monday from 10:30 to approximately noon. However, for the month of September, it will be held on the second Monday, September 8, because the library is closed on September 1 for Labor Day. The book club always includes something sweet to eat, coffee, tea, hot cocoa, or cappuccino, and great conversation about a book or books. The September selection is "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. The historical fiction story follows the writer Juliet Ashton who is doing research of the book club group for her next book. She discovers that a book club formed during the German occupation of the island during World War II was initially created as a cover to avoid arrest for breaching curfew. Over time, the members find the book club and their love of literature as a source of comfort during a difficult time.
The library has borrowed multiple copies from the West Virginia Library Commission. Please pick up or call and reserve your copy soon so you can discuss the book on September 8. While you are there, pick up a copy of our August and September calendars so you don't miss any activities at the library. For additional information about this program or others, call 304-457-3495 or stop by the library.
